Having the Attitude of Christ: What Philippians 2 Taught Me
When I opened Philippians 2, it felt like God was reminding me to shape my life to be more like Christ. Here are the five things that stood out to me.

When we pray, we ask God to guide us to be more like Him, because we humans are not perfect. As much as I know I should remember to be like Christ every second of my life, sometimes we just forget, or we don't think about applying God's word to our everyday lives.
When I was reading the Bible, I started reading Philippians 2 and felt like God was reminding me to shape my life to be more Christ-like.
A chapter about peace
I used to read Philippians 2 and feel like I was being handed a to-do list. Be humble. Be kind. Stop complaining.
But the more I sat with it, the more I saw that it's really about freedom. It shows us what peace looks like when we have the attitude of Christ. Here are the five things that stood out to me.
Freedom from selfish ambition
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit." (Philippians 2:3)
We don't have to compete. We don't have to prove our worth.
So much of our tiredness comes from comparing ourselves to other people. True peace begins when we stop doing that and choose humility, just as Jesus did.
Authority that bends low
Jesus had all the power, yet He chose to become a servant (Philippians 2:5-7).
That changes how I think about greatness. It isn't about being above others. It's about using what we have to love, help, and lift other people up.
Eyes that look beyond self
"Look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:4)
Having the heart of Jesus means noticing people. A kind word, a moment of attention, a little effort to make someone feel loved and valued. It's small, but it matters.
A spirit free from complaint
"Do everything without grumbling or complaining." (Philippians 2:14)
Honestly, this one is hard for me. Life doesn't always go the way I planned.
But I've found that a thankful heart helps me see God's goodness in the little things, and complaining has less room to grow.
Shine like stars
"Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky." (Philippians 2:15)
You don't have to do big things to reflect Jesus. Your patience, your kindness, and your quiet faith can shine His light into someone's day.
Keep these words close
Our everyday lives get a little easier and better when we keep these words, the living truth, in our minds. When kindness feels difficult, when forgiveness seems far away, and when we're wondering what Jesus would do in a situation, we can just remember these scriptures in Philippians 2.
A prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for showing me these words and guiding my life to be truly like You. To have a heart like You do. Help me to be kind and patient in every situation, not angry. Help me to look to You. To trust You wholeheartedly even when the situation feels uncertain. You walk before me. Give me unshakable faith to hold on to You in every season of my life.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Carrying it into your week
If you want something simple to take with you, here are three things I'm choosing this week:
- Gentleness over being right.
- Serving over being noticed.
- Trusting God over striving.
May our hearts grow a little more like Jesus every day.
So, friend, which one do you want to practice this week?
Thanks for reading.
